Salmon Come Home: Celebrating the Return of Salmon at Hoy Creek

Every fall, the Hoy Scott Watershed Society and the City of Coquitlam host Salmon Come Home, an annual community event honouring the remarkable return of salmon to Hoy/Scott Creek. This year’s celebration took place on Sunday, October 26, bringing together families, volunteers, and environmental stewards to witness one of nature’s most iconic migrations.
After spending most of their adult lives in the open ocean, salmon navigate back to the very creek where they were born. Their final mission is singular: to spawn and complete their lifecycle.
Educational Demonstrations by Hoy Scott Watershed Society
During the event, Tyler Storgaard, Vice President of the Hoy Scott Watershed Society, along with the hatchery team, led hands-on demonstrations showcasing the salmon lifecycle and the hatchery work required to support future generations.
Visitors were able to witness:
The full lifecycle of a salmon from egg to adult
The extraction of eggs and milt from returning salmon
Counting and weighing techniques used for broodstock management
The careful fertilization process
Placement of fertilized eggs into incubation trays for early development
These live demonstrations helped deepen public understanding of watershed conservation and the critical work hatcheries do to sustain salmon populations.

Greenano’s Collaboration with Hoy Scott Watershed Society
Greenano Solutions is honoured to support salmon conservation efforts at the Hoy Creek Hatchery, where our nanobubble generator plays an important role in oxygenating the rearing tank and maintaining healthy water conditions for young salmon.
During the event, Greenano’s CMO, Tai Dinh, had a short but meaningful catch up with Tyler Storgaard, Vice President, and Kyle Uno, President of the Hoy Scott Watershed Society. Together, we discussed and explored ways to further optimize dissolved oxygen levels. The conversation also touched on potential upgrades and system refinements that could strengthen future hatchery operations and seasonal rearing cycles.
In addition, Tai spoke with Steve from Noon Creek, exploring a potential partnership to bring advanced nanobubble oxygenation technology to their rearing tank system. This conversation marks a promising step toward supporting more hatcheries and conservation groups across the region.

Continuing the Tradition
Salmon Come Home is not just an event, it’s a celebration of resilience, community stewardship, and the importance of healthy freshwater ecosystems. Greenano is proud to support local hatcheries and looks forward to strengthening its role in environmental and aquatic conservation initiatives.
